Little White Regency Dress
Project type
Sewing, Garment Construction
This gauzy style white overdress is the "Little Black Dress" of the Regency period. Made of a thin muslin, it is see-through and very lightweight which allows a contrasting petticoat to subtly peek through. I have paired it with a light pink bodiced petticoat and a sleeveless Spencer that can be worn on top to add a pop of color. While largely machine sewn, the dress skirt's rolled hem, petticoat's buttonholes and the Spencer's lace edging were all done by hand.
The dress and Spencer are made using the #0119 pattern from Black Snail Patterns - Dress and Sleeveless Spencer 1805-10. The petticoat is made using the #132 pattern from Laughing Moon Mercantile - Ladies' Bodiced Petticoat, Bum Roll & Pocket with modifications to the neckline to match the overdress.
Materials:
Dress: Ikea Matilda sheer 100% cotton curtains, white cotton (lining - in bodice only), twill tape ties and hook and eye closures.
Spencer: Faux Dupioni silk, cotton lace, cotton lining, clasp and hook and eye closures.
Petticoat: Cotton damask, twill tape ties and shell buttons.
